Alter Aeon Necromancer Class Expansion

The staff of Alter Aeon are pleased to announce the addition of a new Necromancer class to the game. This is the first class expansion ever to be added to the game, and hopefully won't be the last.

A long time in coming, this new class adds a lot of flavor and new options to the game. Some of the available spell and skill groups for necromancers involve:

- creating animated entities of various sorts
- raising your own undead
- summoning demons for fun and profit
- using dragon teeth as powerful spell components
- blood skills involving your own blood
- controlling undead and demons
- soulsteal and other spirit-based spells

A full spell at skill list can be found at:

A lot of work went into the minion system for this, to allow high level necromancers to create and manage several minions at once. The class plays very differently from any of the others, and is looking like a great addition to the game.

Feel free to stop by and check it out if you haven't already!

The Alter Aeon Community

I suppose with as many community options are there are available these days, not all of them can be active. So, for whoever stumbles across this, Alter Aeon is in fact still up and running! Feel free to come check us out at:

In the year since I've posted last, we've undergone a tremendous number of changes and game improvements. You can get a pretty complete list of what happened from our 2009 Year In Review article, but for those of you who just want a summary:

- New in-game email system
- Levels 33 and 34 opened
- Microleveling
- Lots of builder improvements
- Potion bottling and throwing
- Healing/regeneration updates

And a lot more.

We've also been busy this year with improvements to the game client, which now has popup status windows, automapping, and group hitpoint bars.

Again, you're welcome to stop by and take a look any time!

May update

There's been a lot of interesting stuff going on this last month, including a bunch of brew potion changes, skill additions, and even a new client release! We've also been seeing a higher userload and a lot of newbies so at least some of the hard work is paying off.

To get the new client release (version 0.980), download it from:

For recent changes over the past month, take a look at this link:

The addition of the warrior skills has been highly looked forward to, though these were primarily utility skills. Potion throwing and bottling are also great additions, with players figuring out new ways to do things and make use of it.

Stop by if you haven't checked things out recently!

(no subject)

Just a quick note that we finally breached PR:4 on the web site, and there were over 70 players on tonight! It looks like things are finally starting to pick up, and hopefully we'll hit over a hundred in the next month or two.

Updates since the last post are many and varied, but probably the biggest ones that affect mortals are:

- addition of level 33 (and higher)

- a big advertising campaign bringing in new people

- a brand new client release 0.978a, which has a graphical automapper and a whole bunch of neat improvements

There's also been a raft of bug fixes (including a couple of bugs from the late 1990's) and massive updates to the web pages. Check the articles section while regenning; you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find there.

Happy hunting!

The wheel of MUD keeps turning...

Boy, a huge amount of stuff has happened since I last posted here. As always, the best places to look for details are the Alter Aeon Change Log, and the Alter Aeon Development Blog over at blogspot.

The short stories are:

1) The web pages have continued their steady improvement, and we are now a PR:3 site!

2) A new leveling system for high level players has been installed, and level 33 and higher should be opened within a couple of weeks.

3) A forum/board system has been set up and is in testing.

4) XML/Web 2.0 style data exports for players, event log, and other information has been implemented.

5) DClient updates are in progress, including a new graphical automapper and an initial port to MacOS X.

6) Int/Wis spell requirement changes, which actually caused a huge amount of controversy.

7) Drunkenness has been added and was recently used at a rather large and rancorous mudding party in the Temple of Dentin.

Anyway, if you're bored and haven't stopped by in a while, come on over. The number of changes on the admin side is at least as large as those for players, and we're even planning on opening up positions for main port builders.

Boy, not much traffic here.

I've actually been doing a lot of posting over at http://mobfactory.blogspot.com. There's updates there for most of the code things I do, as well as some of the newer articles (I just wrote one on bots tonight, its over at http://dentinmud.org/articles/bots_and_botting.html). Anyway, I'll try to add this group to my regular rotation and post at least something from time to time.

A couple changes to the community

Just a quick update: I've made Dentin a maintainer (you should be able to add information to the community's info page) and I've gotten rid of the advertisements on both the journal and info page. I honestly don't know why we had ads in the first place, but they're gone now.

I'd be happy to put up for an account for this community to kill the ads, is that something that can be done?

Community Interests = More Visitors

Slowly but surely I've been adding more and more topics to the community's interests. We have just over 100, and I could use help thinking up some more to add. The more we have, the more likely someone is going to stumble upon this community and follow the link back to http://www.dentinmud.org/ (which means more newbies, woot!).

Basically I just think of things in or related to the world of Alter Aeon and add them into our interests (i.e., mobs, areas, weapons, etc.). Take a look at what I have so far, and if you can think of any that aren't there yet please reply to this entry with them and I will add them to the list.

And a note for Dentin: I'm thinking about making you a community maintainer, if this is something you'd like to do let me know. I'm not sure, but I think you'd be able to edit our community info, as well as change layouts or whatever.

Web page update

I just figured I'd post updates on the web pages as I get new things up and running. Today, I reworked the newbie guide and intro page, and also added a maps page with the ASCII art and autogen maps. The links are:

BTW, what's up with the new layout? It's kinda hard on my eyes.
